Today is a very exciting day! Why, you ask? Because…
But because I’m always spoiled on my birthday, I have decided to dedicate this post to those who have no love in their lives… my lonely socks! I saw this idea on Pinterest a while ago, and have been itching to try it out, especially seeing as I always seem to have lots of lonely socks floating around. Until now, they’ve lived secretly behind the TV in our room, but no longer!
This project is super quick, simple and cheap. It only took me about an hour to finish. What you will need:
- A plaque of some kind. I got this one from Bunnings for around $6.
- Pegs – also from Bunnings, they cost $2!
- Anything you would like to use to decorate your plaque. I used left over paint from our skirting boards and some acrylic paints that I had lying around.
I painted the plaque white. The paint was meant for walls, so it went on very thickly and easily. It only needed two coats.
Next I printed out the wording I wanted to serve as a guide, and I drew it on the plaque in pencil before painting it on with black acrylic and my thinnest paintbrush. You’ll notice the lettering is far from perfect, but I think that adds to the charm. Plus, who has the skill to get it perfect?
Next I glued the pegs on using my trusty friend, superglue. Mario and Aunty H were my style advisors, and they suggested painting the pegs to brighten them up.
I mounted it on the wall using some 3M stickers, and I think it really brightens up the laundry! And the best part is, the whole project only cost me $6, and now my lost sockies have a happy place to wait for their “sole mates” (ha ha).
I have many lonely socks and this is such a great idea! Love it!
I don’t know where they all come from! Poor socks. You should make one, it was very fun and very cheap! I’ve got left over pegs if you like :) Hope you’re feeling better. xxx
Fantastic idea. With 5 members in my family, there would be lots of socks hanging on the board.:)
We’re lucky with just 2, but there still seems to be more lost socks than you would expect!
I’m not sure that you have enough pegs :p
But I love this, you are so creative once again!!! xx
Thanks Mum :P Mario added another one last night. At least now that we have our own washing machine, we will know the socks must be in our house somewhere!
There is not a plaque big enough for all the odd socks we have! You have done a great job. By the way, I have a match for three of your socks!
That’s funny, you can see that Bonds must be very popular :)
