My (DIY)(Paper) Wedding Bouquet

my-wedding-bouquet

Let’s talk bouquets – as I think I have (possibly repeatedly?) mentioned, I made mine, and it was great (the process, I mean, not the bouquet). Not to blow my own horn, but I also think that the bouquet turned out pretty awesome, a fact for which I am thankful.

At what point in the wedding planning process did I decide to make my own bouquet? I can’t really remember, but I think it was very early on. I had to put up with a lot of doubting Thomases too. “You’ll be so stressed”, they said. “Real flowers are nicer!” “You’re a control freak who is unable to relinquish control over the smallest details of your life and one day you’ll have a breakdown”… You get the picture. DIY Wedding Reception Flowers

DIY Wedding Reception Flowers

Let’s talk about DIY wedding reception flowers.

For me, the decision to DIY was an easy one – I’d seen my best friend do the flowers for her mum’s wedding, and they looked amazing, plus they were really economical. Anything that saved me money in the wedding planning process was a no brainer. Plus, it was just one more thing that I could exert my ever-increasing need for control over (yes, I know I have a problem).

To help you decide if doing your own wedding reception flowers is a good option for you, I have put together a handy flow chart, with some very important questions. Continue reading

For the rest of my life…

Finally… the part you have been waiting for (and my favourite part) – the ceremony!!

I hadn’t been nervous at all really during the lead up to the wedding, but once we got in the car to drive to the venue, I felt like I had eaten a live octopus for breakfast. I wasn’t at all nervous about getting married – it was more that I had spent so long planning what the day was going to be like, and it was happening! As Dad pulled the car up to the end of the aisle, I felt the weight of so many eyes on me, and it was one of the more intimidating moments of my life.

My beautiful sister was the first to walk down the aisle, looking elegant as always.

The morning of…

You may have noticed a little bit of a delay between instalments of the wedding blogathon, sorry about that! I have three very good reasons:

  • I have been busy collecting photos of the day from our guests
  • I have had food poisoning
  • We just got a new kitten (his name is Sirius and he is the sweetest, most gorgeous baby – I’ve got some photos on instagram if you want to check him out)

See, good reasons, right??

Anyway, thanks for bearing with me. Today I bring to you our preparations on the morning of the wedding.

Before the big day…

I hope you don’t mind, but I’m going to drag the wedding recap out a little – it’s just so much fun re-living it all. :)

Before the big day 3

The day before the wedding was a hive of activity. We went and met with the staff at the venue, and then started on the reception flowers. I decided to DIY the flowers to save a bit of money, and all up they only cost me around $400 – bargain!  Continue reading

On the way to the wedding

Hey guys, what’s new? Nothing much? Well I have some news… I got married!!

wedding trip 3

Yes that’s right, our big day arrived last Sunday, the 1st of November! Everyone told me beforehand that it would be the best day of my life, and they were right on the money. It was the perfect, perfect day, and I am SO excited to share it all with you. Every teeny tiny little detail… mwahahaha!  Continue reading

D.I.Y. natural facial for dry/oily skin

Pretty much every bridal checklist I’ve come across has indicated to me that I should be getting bi-weekly facials for (at least) the 6 months leading up to the wedding, as well as massages every second day and regular pedicures. OK, I might be exaggerating slightly, but only slightly. But seriously, who has the money for that? Let alone the time??

Anyway, being that spring always wreaks havoc on my skin, and that we got a surprise public holiday in Victoria yesterday (who knows for what – some football thing or other, ha ha), I decided to treat myself to a D.I.Y. facial.  Continue reading

Paper Bridesmaid Bouquets Commission

Paper wedding flowersI kicked something awesome out of the stress box this week (FYI the stress box is how I am currently referring to my brain) – my first ever commission!!!!!!

Yes, to all those people who are always telling me I should make money from my hobbies, I can now officially say that I do! The wisdom of taking on my first ever commission a few weeks before my wedding was questionable, but there you go. Wedding bouquet yellow grey Continue reading

D.I.Y. Macramé Jar Holders

DIY Macrame jar holders

Trends are a funny thing – just when you think a particular style or decor is gone for good, it swings around again to be the new hottest thing. I was super skeptical about the resurgence of macrame that I’ve been seeing around lately (70s decor has never been my thing!), but as you can see, I’ve now jumped on the bandwagon. I actually love the combination of the macrame style and the natural look of jute twine. It reminds me of fishing nets and boats and sailors on old-timey ships, which is actually interesting because macrame was popular among sailors in times of yore.

Anyway, to celebrate my change of heart, I thought I’d share a very easy D.I.Y. project with you – a simple macrame jar holder. I saw these at the market last weekend selling for a few dollars each, so this could be your road to riches – you’re welcome! ;)
