Two days in Florence

two-days-in-florence

Part of our travels last year took us through central Italy, and we were lucky enough to stop in Florence – Firenze – for a couple of days. Both Mario and I had been to Florence before, but we were still pretty excited to visit again. I’m not going to lie, this time we went pretty light on the artistic and historical aspects of the city (of which there are many!), instead choosing to focus on, well, food. And wine. And also some shopping. Hey, we were on holidays ok? Continue reading

A weekend in Hobart

Hellooooo, I am still alive. :) Today I want to share with you one of the many things I have been up to in the last month, namely – visiting Hobart, Tasmania (which is a supremely excellent place).

So, why Hobart? I’m glad you asked! Four of our very dearest friends came up with the amazing (seriously amazing) idea of giving Mario and I a weekend away as a gift for our wedding, and as they are all v. big fans of Tassie, Hobart was their choice of destination. It was a complete surprise for Mario and I, and one that we couldn’t have been happier about. They organised everything – flights, hotel, even a list of places and restaurants to visit. It was excellent in every way. Continue reading

A Slice of Heaven: Delicious and Easy Dessert Pizza

Dessert Pizza

Every now and again, a recipe comes along that is so perfect, such a heavenly combination of easy and delicious, that all you can do is sit back in wonder, and admire it…

No, I’m totally kidding – what you have to do is make it, then eat it! Like, right now!

Anyway, you probably see where I’m going here, but this recipe is exactly that kind of recipe. It takes five minutes, max, to prepare, and much much less time to eat! Continue reading

Ten Reasons why this Friday is AWESOME

Friday night is just a few short hours away, and to spread around the Friday love, I want to share with you a few awesome reasons why this Friday has my undying love.

1. It was announced this morning that the new novel by Robert Galbraith (a.k.a. J.K. Rowling) is being published on October 20 (just a week or so before my wedding! Great present J.K.!) and is called Career of Evil. What a great thing to wake up to on a Friday morning!!

Choosing the Perfect Cheese Platter

I am definitely feeling the autumn blues this week. The leaves are changing colour, the days are getting shorter, and I am fighting the strong urge to crawl into bed and hibernate for three to four months. It isn’t even truly cold yet, but I as I write this blog, I am sitting on top of the heater with my uggs on.

That’s why today’s post is on something to warm the spirit – cheese. The most holey of foods (see what I did there?). I love cheese in all its forms. Its creamy comfort is second only to chocolate (and I’m sure we’ve all had our fair share of that over the last few weeks!).

Amazing Antipasti

Amazing AntipastiHappy Friday everyone! In honour of the weekend, I thought I would do a post about food, because Fat Friday.

This should come as a surprise to no one, but I love food. Love. The experience of eating good food is one of the things that I live for. It also brings me a huge amount of joy to cook for my friends and share a meal together – dinner parties are literally my favourite social activity.

A formal dinner party is a lot of work, and, more often than not, quite expensive. One of the tricks I have mastered is to pick a menu that can be 90% completed before the guests arrive, both to cut down on stress and, let’s face it, so that there’s time to clean up the huge mess you’ve made of the kitchen,  thereby keeping up that  Martha Stewart/Nigella Lawson/Domestic Goddess facade you’ve got going on. #icandeclutter: The Last Day

This post is soooo long overdue, I’m sorry!! I have been donating things left, right and centre, and it has taken a hell of a lot longer that I expected!

The pantry was the last area that I chose to declutter for my #icandeclutter challenge. The ‘before’ photos are actually from a long time before – maybe about a year after we moved in. The current state of the pantry has been much closer to the ‘after’ photos for a long time, but it definitely needed a refresh.

Honey and Lime Glazed Christmas Ham

http://icandotht.com/2014/12/20/honey-and-lime-glazed-christmas-ham/

I know, I know, this blog is late. It’s Sunday. If I wish you a happy 8th day of Christmas, I will be lying. I don’t care though, I’m going to wish it anyway. Happy 8th day of Christmas!

I have a very good excuse for being late though – our recipe for today (yesterday) was something I made to take to my Mum’s Christmas party last night! It was a raging party and we didn’t get home until after 2am, so by then it was already too late…

Anyway, with the benefit of being able to see the ‘future’, I can honestly tell you that this ham was a HIT. The entire 5 and a half kilos of it was devoured in no time – I couldn’t believe it. A bunch of people asked for the recipe, and (although you should never admit this!) it was nice to be able to tell them how easy it was. Continue reading

Christmas Cookies

http://icandotht.com/2014/12/16/christmas-cookies/

Fourth day of Christmas, ahhhhh! Where is the time going?? It’s the most wonderful time of the year and it’s going by way too fast!

I wanted to share this recipe with you today because these cookies are the perfect thing to take along to a holiday party – they look impressive (which is why we do this, right?) and they taste DELICIOUS. They are soft and buttery, without being too heavy. I’ve never been a huge fan of shortbread, but these cookies have converted me. Continue reading
